Sited on Bintan Island in the Riau Archipelago, Bintan Industrial Estate (BIE) is the ground-breaker of the integrated industrial town concept. Focusing mainly on the electronics and resource-intensive light industries, the BIE was conceived to capitalize on the synergies existing between Singapore and Indonesia. Located just 50 km away from Singapore and measuring 110 hectares, the BIE is developed jointly by a Singapore-Indonesian consortium led by SembCorp Industries. The BIE is also a duty free Export Processing Zone, offering investors an abundance of resources as well as access to world markets via Singapore’s excellent transport and logistic infrastructure.

The BIE is built with unique features, aimed at providing a conducive and comprehensive manufacturing climate. A few amenities as well as options have been arranged with the aim of providing employees with comfortable living conditions. For example, prospective employees may choose to stay in the dormitories situated in close proximity to factories. Alternatively, housing rental options are also made available. In addition, a modern town centre furnished with a wet market, shop houses, food centres, a mosque, a medical centre and banking facilities are also within accessible range of the BIE. At the same time, recreational facilities such as a basketball court, a volleyball court and a soccer field are also provided for.
